Whence have come things which you possess?

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ 82

 يَعْرِفُونَ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُنكِرُونَهَا وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ 83

82.  Then, if they turn away, thy duty (O Muhammad) is but plain conveyance (of the message). 83.  They recognize the favour of Allah and then deny it and most of them are ingrates.

82.  Fa-‘in  tawallaw  fa-‘inna-maa  ‘alaykal-Balaagul-Mubiin. 83.  Ya’-rifuuna  ni’-matAllaahi  summa  yunki-ruunahaa  wa  ‘aksaru-humul-kaafiruun. (Section – 11)

       

Commentary

Summary of the Teachings of Holy Qur’an is that after reaping advantage from the things of the word, the mankind should consider that these have been created by Allah Almighty with His kindness, and He has given me so much power and authority that I can reap advantage from them. Along with it; He has given me sense; by which I can understand that I should not misuse these things in such a way that these may be cause of any loss or disadvantage instead of being advantageous. Correct use of things has been explained in Holy Qur’an, and Messenger of God Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has established for the human beings a general course of life for always; by acting upon the commands mentioned in Holy Qur’an.

It has been commanded in these verses: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! Maybe that these ignorant and careless people do not attend to You and continue their own business. From their behavior you should neither be wearied and nor heart-broken. Your only duty is that you should cause to hear them the verses of Holy Qur’an by reciting, describe them way of acting upon them verbally and show them practically “how to act upon them”. Even, if someone does neither listen and nor admit, then let tem mind their own business. They will return unto Us after death and then We shall cope with them. We have empowered them to believe or disbelieve in this world. Their sense will guide them that these entire good things have not been created at their own. God Almighty has arranged their existence and continuance completely. But maximum people are dull in understanding. This clear matter is not seen to them because they do not draw their attention to this side that “whence have come the things which they possess?”

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَٰلًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ أَكْنَٰنًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُمُ ٱلْحَرَّ وَسَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُم بَأْسَكُمْ كَذَٰلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُۥعَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُونَ 81

81.  And Allah hath given you, of that which He hath created, shelter from the sun; and hath given you places of refuge in the mountains, and hath given you coats to ward off the heat from you, and coats (of armour) to save you during war. Thus doth He perfect His favour unto you, in order that ye may surrender (unto Him).

81.   Wallaahu  ja-‘ala  lakum-mimmaa  Khalaqa  zilaalanw-wa  ja-‘ala  lakum-minal-jibaali  ‘aknaa-nanw-wa  ja-‘ala  lakum  saraa-biila  taqii-kumul-harra  wa   saraa-biila  taqii-kum-  ba’-sakum.  Kazaalika  Yutimmu  ni’-mataHuu  ‘alay-kum  la-‘allakum  tuslimuun.

       

Commentary

‘Aknaanun – this word is plural of kinnun, which means “place of refuge”.

Saraa-biila – it is plural of sarbaal, which means “a coat”.

Taqii – (it saves), origin of this word is waq-yun. Waq-yun and waqaayatun means “to save”.

It is commanded: We created sound shadows of many things, for example, shadows of mountains, trees, buildings and clouds, below which; you sit comfortably in cold to save yourselves from the heat of the sun. In addition, We created places of refuge in the mountains, in which you can take shelter for being saved from enemy, rain or sunlight. Moreover, We taught you preparing coats for safety from the heat. After wearing them you preserve your bodies from the heat of the sunshine. We taught you also “how to make a kind of coats; by pairing the rings of iron” which are called “chain armors”, and which save your bodies from being wounded at the time of war. Who does perfect these favors unto you? Certainly, this all has been provided to you by Allah Almighty with His Grace. He created for you entire required things and gave you sense and power of understanding, in order that you may prepare for yourselves all necessary goods from these things.

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۢ بُيُوتِكُمْسَكَنًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّن جُلُودِ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ بُيُوتًا تَسْتَخِفُّونَهَا يَوْمَ ظَعْنِكُمْ وَيَوْمَ إِقَامَتِكُمْ وَمِنْ أَصْوَافِهَا وَأَوْبَارِهَا وَأَشْعَارِهَآ أَثَٰثًا وَمَتَٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ 80

80.  And Allah hath given you in your houses an abode, and hath given you (also), of the hides of cattle, tent-houses which ye find light (to carry) on the day of migration and on the day of pitching camp; and of their wool and their fur and their hair, caparison and comfort for a while.

80.  Wallaahu  ja-‘ala  lakum-mim-buyuuti-kum  sakananw-wa  ja-‘ala  lakum-min  juluudil- ‘an-‘aami  buyuutan  tastakhif-fuunahaa  yawma  za’-nikum  wa  yawma  ‘iqaamatikum,  wa  min  ‘aswaa-fihaa  wa  ‘awbaari-haa  wa  ‘ash-‘aarihaaa  ‘asaasanw-wa  mataa-‘an  ‘ilaa  hiin.

       

Commentary

Tastakhif-fuuna – (you find light), origin of this word is ‘istikhfaaf, which has been derived from the word khiffatun. Khiffatun means “light, very lean”. From the same, the word khafiif has come out which means “small, slight, trivial and light etc. ‘istikhfaaf means “to feel or find light”.

‘Aswaafun (wool), it is plural of sawf, which means “wool of the sheep”.

‘Awbaari – this word is plural of wabrun, which means “soft hair of the camel etc.”

It is commanded: You prepare comfortable things for yourselves from the things created by Allah Almighty. You should understand it that these things are given by Us (God Almighty). We showed you the path that you should build good houses for your living by collecting bricks, stones, wood and iron etc.

And then, We guided the people that they should make tent-houses from the hides of cattle, so that those may be used during journey from one place to other. Fixed house cannot be shifted from one place to any other, but you have to travel for any purpose. Some times you require changing the place of your dwelling. So by picking up your tent-houses and camps, you can move anywhere and live comfortably, permanently or temporarily after pitching them.

Moreover, with the wool of the sheep, hair of the camel and the goat etc. many useful things of the house, ropes, blankets and woolen carpets etc. can be made and used until the last breath.

وَٱللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ 78

  أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ مُسَخَّرَٰتٍ فِى جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ 79

78.  And Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers knowing nothing, and gave you hearing and sight and hearts that haply ye might give thanks. 79.  Have they not seen the birds obedient in mid-air? None holdeth them save Allah. Lo! Herein, verily, are portents for a people who believe.

78.  Wallaahu  ‘akh-raja-kum-mim-butuuni  ‘umma-haati-kum  laa  ta’-lamuuna  shay-‘anw-wa  ja-‘ala  lakumus-sam-‘a  wal-‘absaara  wal-‘af-‘idata,  la-‘allakum  tashkuruun.  79.  ‘Alam  yaraw  ‘ilat-tayri  musakh-kharaatin  fii  jawwis-samaaa’.  Maa  yumsiku-hunna  ‘illAllaah.  ‘Inna  fii  zaalika  la-‘Aayaatil-li-qawminy- yu’-minuun.

       

Commentary

It is commanded that Allah Almighty kept you in the wombs of mothers for some period and then brought forth. What was your condition at that time? You did not know any thing save some perceptions. Then He developed you in the process of time, even that you began to know the things by hearing and looking. Along with it, He gave you heart for setting up judgment about those things after thinking and understanding, so that gradually, it may bring you unto the knowledge about Allah Almighty and teach you that you should be thankful to your Real Benefactor every time.

After that, He caused to focus unto one more creature i.e. the birds. It was demand of their make and type that they should fly in the air of the sky. Every kind of birds flies according to the laws, which Allah Almighty has established for them. Behold! Only Allah Almighty is Who holds them in the air. The Believers observe portents of the Power of Allah Almighty in own and their circumstances.

وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَآ أَمْرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمْحِ ٱلْبَصَرِ أَوْ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ إِنَّٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ 77

77.  And unto Allah belongeth the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and the matter of the Hour (of Doom) is but as a twinkling of the eye, or it is nearer still. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.

77.  Wa  Lillaahi  Gaybus-samaa-waati  wal-‘arz.  Wa  maaa  ‘amrus-Saa-‘ati  ‘illaa  kalamhil-basari  ‘aw  huwa  ‘aqrab.  ‘InnAllaaha  ‘alaa  kulli  shay-‘in  Qadiir.

       

Commentary

Lamhil-basari – (a twinkling of the eye), ‘almah means “to make a signal, to indicate, to close (the eye) and open”. Lamhil-basari means “to shut and open the eye lids”. There is another word “tarfatul-‘ayn” which is used for the same meaning.

About any person, someone else does neither know all matters and nor can know. Every individual contains any secret, about which; other people are totally unaware. They can know only by their conjecture or that which is told to them. Like it; other creatures too have their separate qualities, which can be known to any mankind by own practical trial or when any other will inform.

While there is no one who is aware fully of the condition of any other, then it is clear that the Knower of the mystery of every thing is only Allah Almighty, not anyone else. Therefore, no one can take full account of the mankind from him save Allah Almighty.

The same has been caused to understand in this verse that only Allah Almighty is Who knows the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and He will take an account of everything. Therefore, coming of the Day of Judgment is unavoidable and when Allah Almighty will plan, that Hour will reach in the twinkling of the eye. As much time takes an eye in shutting and opening again, that Hour will be still nearer. It is the condition of every work before His Omnipotence that as soon as He says: Be! On the other hand “That is.”

This difference of the things, at first proved the Oneness of Allah Almighty and then it confirmed the necessity of the Doomsday and complete Accounting.

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبْكَمُ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوْلَىٰهُ أَيْنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ هَلْيَسْتَوِى هُوَ وَمَن يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ 76

  

Only those people can be idolaters who did not know Allah Almighty correctly. They thought about Him that “He is mere the Greatest King as the great kings of the world are. They command the people; but by means of their ministers, chieftains and chosen courtiers. Only such people can have access in their courts for whom any of the chosen servants recommend.

The idolaters of Arab used to exemplify that “Allah Almighty is just like the kings of the world” and they used to say: We worship idols for the purpose that they should cause to reach us in the Court of Allah Almighty by their recommendation, so that we may be closed to Him.

Then it was commanded: Any similitude of one another may be found in the creatures, and that similitude can manifest its reality. But the difference between the Creator and the creature is as much as the difference between the earth and the sky. Circumstances of One cannot be affixed on others.

You should observe among the human beings that one person who is poor, wretched and slave of someone else, whereas the other is rich, man of means and independent. They both can neither be equal and nor an excused person can be equal of any strong and healthy person. You have to understand two matters from it:

·       While grades of the creatures are not equal. There is much mutual difference with regard to power of authority and other circumstances, then how can someone be equal and partner of Allah Almighty, Who is Owner of the entire Sovereignty and Who is the Most Powerful, and attributes of none other can be equal with Him?

·       Secondly, it is incumbent to understand also that the dignity of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is much more than the idols. The idols are dumb, deaf and blind, whereas the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) goes on the Straight Path and guides for it to other people also. Would it not be an extreme error if the head is bowed before any helpless, lifeless and incapable thing, and denied from hearing the Sayings of God’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)?

If you have understood the difference of the degrees from these similitudes then it is your duty to accept that only Allah Almighty is One Worshipped and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is a Perfect Guide.

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبْكَمُ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوْلَىٰهُ أَيْنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ هَلْيَسْتَوِى هُوَ وَمَن يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ 76

76.  And Allah coineth a similitude: Two men, one of them dumb, having control of nothing, and he is a burden on his owner; whithersoever he directeth him to go, he bringeth no good. Is he equal with one who enjoineth justice and followeth a Straight Path (of conduct)?

76.  Wa  zarabAllaahu  Masalar-raju-layni  ‘ahadu-humaaa  ‘abkamu  laa  yaqdiru  ‘alaa  shay-‘inw-wa  huwa  kallun  ‘alaa  mawlaa-hu,  ‘aynamaa  yuwajjih-hul- laa  ya’-ti  bi-khayr.  Hal  yastawii  huwa,  wa  many-ya’-muru  bil-‘adli,  wa  huwa  ‘alaa  Siraatim-Mustaqiim. (Section 10)

       

Commentary

Kallun – (a burden), it is an adjective, origin of which is kalaal. Kalaal means “burden, load, fatigue, weariness, gravity”.

Mawlaa – (owner, close relative, companion), kallun  ‘alaa  mawlaa-hu (is a burden on his owner).

It is commanded that a dumb and deaf person, who can neither think and understand, and nor can do any work correctly, is a burden on his patron and guardian every way. If he commands him sometime or other to do any work, he damages it. At first he does not understand that what his owner has said. Suppose if he understood something, then he has been confounded at the time of doing work, and whatever does he work, it is considered that it would be good if he would not have worked.

Can he be equal with such person who is active in every way, who performs himself his entire works and always remains ahead of all, and who instructs also to others that: Behold! Manage your works with justice in mutual affairs?

While these both persons cannot be equal, then how can you assign those equal with Allah Almighty who are good for nothing and disabled?
