Pharaoh and others were drowned

Chapter Shu-‘araaa’”- (The Poets) - 26

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

63.  Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.

64.  And brought We near the others to that place.

65.  And We saved Moses and those with him, every one.

66.  And We drowned the others.

67.  Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not Believers.

68.  And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
63.  Fa-‘awhayNaaa  ‘ilaa  Muusaaa  ‘anizrib-bi-‘asaakal-bahr.  Fanfalaqa  fakaana  kullu  firqin  kattawdil-‘aziim.

64.  Wa  ‘azlafNaa  sammal-‘aa-khariin.

65.  Wa  ‘anjayNaa  Muusaa  wa  mam-ma-‘ahuuu  ‘ajma-‘iin.

66.  Summa  ‘agraqNal-‘aakhariin.

67.  ‘Inna  fii  zaalika  la-‘Aayah.  Wa  maa  kaana  ‘aksaruhum-  Mu’miniin.

68.  Wa  ‘inna  Rabbaka  la-Huwal- ‘Aziizur-  Rahiim.  (Section 4)

Commentary

‘Infalaqa – (it parted), this word is in past tense from falaq. Falaq means “to rend, to split”.

‘AzlafNaa – ( We brought near), it is also past tense from the word zalaf. Zalaf means “near, not far distant”. This word has passed in Surah Huud. There; it aimed “that part of any thing which is near”.

It is commanded: We arranged for the Children of Israel to cross the Sea, by revealing in the heart of Moses (peace be upon him): Smite the sea with your staff. As soon as Moses (peace be upon him) smote with his staff, the river parted and the paths appeared from it. The water shrank and it was collected at various places. Its every part was like a vast mountain. In the middle of those mountains of water, the Children of Israel got down on those paths and arrived at the bank of river’s other side. Meanwhile Pharaoh and his Army reached near the river. They saw that there were paths in the river and the Children of Israel were crossing the river by those paths. They also got down in those paths. All the Children of Israel crossed the river, but Pharaoh and his companions were in the centre of the river so far, and the parts of water; which were standing like mountains; met together.

It is commanded: it was Portent of Our Power, but even then maximum people do not believe after looking. However Allaah is greatest Mighty that He ruined the rebellious as Pharaoh was. And He is most Merciful that He saved the feeble and the oppressed as the Children of Israel were.

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

36.  (O man), follow not that whereof thou hast no knowledge. Lo! the hearing and the sight and the heart - of each of these it will be asked.
36.  Wa  laa  taqfu  maa  laysa  laka  bihii  ‘ilm.  ‘Innas-sam-‘a  wal-basara  wal-fu-‘aada  kullu  ‘ulaaa-‘ika  kaana  ‘anhu  mas-‘uulaa.

Commentary

Laa  taqfu – (Follow not!), it is a negative sentence from the word quf-wun, which means “to follow”. From the same; a word qufaa’ has been derived which means “the back of the neck”.

Fu-‘aada – (the heart), it aims “sense and intelligence, work of which is to bring out correct results from the available information”.

It is known from this verse that “that is the correct knowledge which is confirmed by the common sense and after that; one has faith in it. If any person regards a matter as true before confirmation by the common sense, and either he spoke about it or acted upon it, then it will be asked from him that “why did you hastened without confirmation?” And then he will be punished certainly because of it; either in the world or in the Hereafter or in the both places. Saying something by tongue is a work of great responsibility. For this, it is necessary that the ears heard correctly, eyes saw exactly and then the mind drew sound result from the heard and seen matter, and at the last; common sense of the mankind confirmed that it was the correct result, then the heart was satisfied that it was able to be spoken or acted upon it unhesitatingly.

Here, it has been caused to understand the mankind that he should think before speaking or going forth that whether these entire powers (hearing, seeing, mental, physical and intellectual etc.) have performed their work properly or otherwise? If there is any error in hearing, understanding or looking, or the sense has confirmed erroneously, or the heart has confirmed to do or say something without confirmation of the wisdom, then the human being will be entangled in the difficulties of the world and the Hereafter. And it will be asked from him about every power out of them.
