Chapter Maryam (Mary) – 19

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

وَيَزِيدُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ هُدًى وَٱلْبَٰقِيَٰتُ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ مَّرَدًّا 76

 أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِىكَفَرَ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا 77 

76.  And Allah increaseth in right Guidance those who walk aright, and the good deeds which endure are better in thy Lord’s sight for reward, and better for resort. 77.  Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our Revelations and saith: Assuredly I shall be given wealth and children?

76.  Wa  yaziidUllaahul-lazii-nahtadaw  Hudaa.  Wal-Baqiyaatus-Saalihaatu  khayrun  ‘inda  Rabbika  sawaabanw-wa  khayrum-maraddaa. 77.  ‘Afara-‘aytallazii  kafara  bi-‘AayaatiNaa  wa  qaala  la-‘uutayanna  maalanw-wa  waladaa.

        

Commentary

Maraddun – (the resort, the last abode), it is a noun regarding place of dwelling. It aims “the place where one will be returned or to return, to invert.

La-‘uutayanna – (assuredly I shall be given), this word is from ‘iitaa-‘un. Origin of this word is “’at-yun” and from it a word ‘atyaan has been derived which means “to come’. ‘iitaa-‘un means “to bring”. Therefore, the above mentioned word is in use for the meaning of “to give”.

It is commanded: Understanding and knowledge of that person will be increased gradually day by day who chose the Straight Path. He will observe clearly that Allah Almighty gives good reward of those good works about which it has been described that their effect is long lasting and permanent, and consequence of those works will also be good. That disbeliever who says: “I have everything in the world. I don’t care of any other. At first it is useless to think about the life after death, and if suppose, I am reproduced, I shall be rich and shall have children There too as here. Moreover, you who are poor and needy of pennies here; and no esteemed person considers that your are equal to him, you will be there as you are here”. It has been mentioned that one haughty person who was rich and purse-proud took work from an honest laborer but did not pay him wages and said: Turn from Islam if you wish to get wages. He said: If I am dead and come back to life again, even then I shall not turn from Islam. Then the rich man said: Stay then! You are confuted of reproducing after death. You will be provided these all things there too, then you should take your wages There.

Chapter Maryam (Mary) – 19

قُلْ مَن كَانَ فِى ٱلضَّلَٰلَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مَدًّا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْهُوَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَأَضْعَفُ جُندًا 75 

75.  Say: As for him who is in error, the Beneficent will verily prolong his span of life until, when they behold that which they were promised, whether it be punishment (in the world), or the hour (of Doom), they will know who is worse in position and who is weaker as an army.

75.  Qul  man  kaana  fiz-zalaalati  falyamdud  lahur-Rahmaanu  maddaa.  Hattaaa  ‘izaa  ra-‘aw  maa yuu-‘aduuna  ‘immal-‘azaaba  wa  ‘immas-Saa-‘ah.  Fasa-ya’-lamuuna  man  huwa  sharrum-makaananw-wa  ‘az-‘afu  jundaa.

        

Commentary

Jundun – (party,), it means “an army, group and helpers”. It is also in use for a township. In the first meanings, its plural is junuud, and in the second – its plural is ‘ajnaad. Here, it aims first meanings.

Holy Qur’an causes to understand the people that prosperity of the next life (after death) does not follow of the necessity from the prosperity of this world. It is the demand of God’s Mercy to let them go who err, so that haply they understand. But this respite is given for a fixed time. When that delay comes to an end, then either those people are punished severely even in the world as a warning, otherwise they shall be punished certainly on the Day of Resurrection. Then they will come to know that in fact they were in harsh doubt. Neither the luxurious things of the world were lasting and nor friends and companions of the world were useful. Messengers of God Almighty (peace be upon them) used to say the Truth that none should strut due to prosperity of the world. Forgetting the Hereafter is violent ignorance. You will be reproduced along with your desires and ambitions on the last Day, but there; you will not find the things by which you used to fulfill your desires in this world. Therefore, those will be naught but only source of grief and sorrow. Desires of only those people will be fulfilled there, who used them for the life after death.

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٍ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَىُّ ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ خَيْرٌ مَّقَامًا وَأَحْسَنُ نَدِيًّا 73

 وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْأَحْسَنُ أَثَٰثًا وَرِءْيًا 74 

73.  And when Our clear Revelations are recited unto them, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Which of the two parties (yours or ours) is better in position, and whose company is more excellent? 74.  And how many a generation have We destroyed before them, who were better in respect of worldly goods and outward seeming!

73.  Wa  ‘izaa  tutlaa  ‘alayhim  ‘AayaatuNaa  bayyinaatin-  qaalal-laziina  kafaruu  lillaziina  ‘aamanuuu,  ‘ayyul-fariiqayni  khayrum-Maqaamanw-wa  ‘ahsanu  Nadiyyaa. 74.  Wa  kam  ‘ahlakNaa  qabla-hum-min  qarnin  hum  ‘ahsanu  ‘asaasanw-wa  ri’-yaa.

        

Commentary

Nadiyyun – (an assembly, a party), this word is a noun from nad-wun, which means “to collect, to gather”. From the same word, “nadwatun and nadiyyun” have come out, meanings of which are “a party, a congregation, and a place where the people meet for the purpose of amusement and consultation etc.”

Ri’-yun – (outward seeming, a sight, a scene), it is a noun from “ra-‘a-ya”, from which the word ru’-yatun is a source. Ru’-yatun means “to see”. Ri’-yun is the thing or condition which can be seen before eyes.

It is commanded: After hearing the verses of Holy Qur’an, the disbelievers say to the Muslims! Is it not fact that from the both of our two groups, only our residences are apparently more brilliant and adorned than all others, and the people feel happiness by joining us. Only our congregations are pompous and graceful. Our helpers and supporters are more in numbers. Whereas, neither your houses are better for living, nor your assemblies are cheerful as ours; and nor you have more helpers. It is not understandable that after death such change will come that you will become honorable and we shall become disgraceful.

As a reply, it is being commanded: Before you, many grand people passed away in the world, whose houses were more decorated than yours, they were more famous and renowned than you. They did not care the sayings of Our Prophets (peace be upon them), so We ruined them. Neither they are living today and nor their parties and groups exist. There is no one who should remember them.

ثُمَّ لَنَنزِعَنَّ مِن كُلِّ شِيعَةٍ أَيُّهُمْ أَشَدُّ عَلَى ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ عِتِيًّا 69

 ثُمَّ لَنَحْنُ أَعْلَمُبِٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِهَا صِلِيًّا 70

 وَإِن مِّنكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ حَتْمًا مَّقْضِيًّا 71

  ثُمَّ نُنَجِّى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّنَذَرُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّا 72

69.  Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent. 70.  Then surely We are Best Aware of those most worthy to be burned therein. 71.  And there is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord. 72.  Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evildoers crouching there.

69.  Summa  lananzi-‘anna  min  kulli  shii-‘atin  ‘ayyuhum  ‘ashaddu  ‘alar-Rahmaani  ‘itiyyaa. 70.  Summa  la-nahnu  ‘A’-lamu  billaziina  hum  ‘awlaa  bihaa  siliyyaa. 71.  Wa  ‘imminkum  ‘illaa  waa-riduhaa.  Kaana  ‘alaa  Rabbika  Hatmam-maqziyyaa. 72.  Summa  Nunajjil-laziinatta-qaw-wa  nazaruz-zaalimiina  fiihaa  jisiyyaa.

        

Commentary

‘Itiyyun – (rebellion), ‘ut-wun and ‘itiyyun are from the same form, which means “to rebel, to be proud”.

Siliyyun – (will enter in), here it aims “to enter into the Fire”.

Allah Almighty commands that most stubborn people in rebellion of every sect will be plucked out and separated from others. We are Best Aware of the people who are most worthy to be burned in the Fire of the Hell.

Then it is commanded: There is no such person who would not have to pass the Hell through a Bridge (Pul-Siraat - which will be thin more than a hair and sharp more than a sword, according to Muslims Belief; a Bridge over which the Righteous will pass to Heaven). Then the person who used to avoid wrongdoing in the world due to fear of God Almighty, He will rescue such person from the Hell and admit into the Garden. But those people who are evildoers, disbelievers and infidels, they will fall down in the Hell and will be left crouching in It. (May God forbid).

Chapter Maryam (Mary) – 19

   وَيَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَءِذَا مَا مِتُّ لَسَوْفَ أُخْرَجُ حَيًّا 66

 أَوَلَا يَذْكُرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ يَكُ شَيْـًٔا 67

 فَوَرَبِّكَلَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْ وَٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ ثُمَّ لَنُحْضِرَنَّهُمْ حَوْلَ جَهَنَّمَ جِثِيًّا 68

66.  And man saith: When I am dead, shall I forsooth be brought forth alive? 67.  Doth not man remember that We created him before, when he was naught? 68.  By thy Lord, verily We shall assemble them and the devils, then We shall bring them, crouching, around Hell.

66.  Wa  yaquulul-‘insaanu  ‘a-‘izaa-  maa-mittu  la-sawfa  ‘ukhraju  hayyaa. 67.  ‘Awa-  laa  yazkurul-‘insaanu  ‘annaa  khalaqNaahu  min-  qablu  wa  lam  yaku  shay-‘aa. 68.  Fawa  Rabbika  laNah-shurannahum  wash-shayaatiina  summa  la-Nuhzi-rannahum  hawla  Jahannama  jisiyyaa.

        

Commentary

Mittu (I am dead), it is the first person singular in past tense from the word ma-wa-ta, origin of which is ma-ya-ta, so the first person singular in past tense comes on the weight of muttu and mittu (both words).

Jisiyyun – (in crouching condition), this word is plural of jaasin, which is the Subject from jusuwwun. Jusuwwun means “to crouch”. Actually this word was jusuu-yun, but after changing of vowels; it became “jisiyyun”.

After hearing these sayings, some people said with wonder: Shall we undoubtedly be brought forth alive after death? After copying their words, it has been replied that “the mankind should not forget that Allah Almighty is Who created them first time in the world. Apparently there was no sign of them on the earth. Allah Almighty created them alive as mankind by His Power, then enlarged them by nourishing and provided them timely their entire required things.

Why does the mankind forget the omnipotence of his Lord? We remind the Power of your Lord again to the mankind and say: By your Lord; Who is Omnipotent, We shall reproduce all of them on the Day of Resurrection and assemble them along with the devils (who used to mislead the human beings) in a Field altogether. The Hell will be in their centre and they will be crouching due to fear of terror.

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

تِلْكَ ٱلْجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِى نُورِثُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا مَن كَانَ تَقِيًّا 63

 وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلَّا بِأَمْرِرَبِّكَ لَهُۥ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَمَا خَلْفَنَا وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّا 64

  رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَٱصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَٰدَتِهِۦ هَلْتَعْلَمُ لَهُۥ سَمِيًّا 65

63.  Such is the Garden which We cause the devout among Our bondmen to inherit.  64.  We (angels) come not down save by commandment of thy Lord. Unto Him belongeth all that is before us and all that is behind us and all that is between those two, and thy Lord is never forgetful. 65.  Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them! So worship thou Him and be thou steadfast in His service. Knowest thou one that can be named along with Him?

63.  Tailkal-Jannatullatii  Nuurisu  min  ‘ibaadiNaa  man-  kaana  taqiyyaa. 64.  Wa  maa  natanazzalu  ‘illaa  bi-‘amri  Rabbik.  LaHuu  maa  bayna  ‘aydiinaa  wa  maa  khalfanaa  wa  maa bayna  zaalik.  Wa  maa  kaana  Rabbuka  nasiyyaa. 65.  Rabbus-samaawaati  wal-‘arzi  wa  maa  baynahumaa  fa’-buduuHu  wastabir  li-‘ibaadatiH.  Hal  ta’-lamu  laHuu  samiyyaa. (Section 4)

        

Commentary

After describing about the Garden, it is commanded: This is the Garden; of which We have promised with Our bondmen believers. We shall cause to inherit those people of the Garden who will give up doing wrong due to Our fear.

Then the Angels (peace be upon them) say: Coming of our down on the earth depends on the commandment of Allah Almighty. He is Aware of all circumstances which were before us, which will be behind us and which are between the two. He does not forget anything. He is Lord of the heavens, the earth and whatsoever exists in between these both. Everyone should worship Him only. No one is partner of Him; even along with His name.

Chapter Maryam (Mary) – 19

جَنَّٰتِ عَدْنٍ ٱلَّتِى وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ عِبَادَهُۥ بِٱلْغَيْبِ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَأْتِيًّا 61

  لَّايَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا إِلَّا سَلَٰمًا وَلَهُمْ رِزْقُهُمْ فِيهَا بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيًّا 62

61.  Gardens of Aden, which the Beneficent hath promised to His slaves in the Unseen. Lo! His promise is ever sure of fulfillment – 62.  They hear therein no idle talk, but only Peace. And therein they have food for morn and evening.

61.  Jannaati  ‘Adni-nillatii  wa-‘adar-Rahmaanu  ‘ibaada-Huu  bil-Gayb.  ‘InnaHuu  kaana  wa’-duHuu  ma’-tiyyaa. 62.  Laa  yasma-‘uuna  fiihaa  lagwan  ‘illaa  Salaamaa.  Wa  lahum  rizquhum  fiihaa  bukra-tanw-wa  ‘ashiyyaa.

        

Commentary

Ma’-tiyyun – (the place where one shall reach surely), it is the passive participle from ‘a-ta-ya. ‘Atiyyun means “to come”. It aims that Paradise exists at its proper place, which is last abode of the virtuous people. Certainly they will reach there.

These are Gardens of Aden, not for rejoicing and recreation purpose only for a few days. Still the human beings have not seen to them. But when they will see, they will find them more than hope a place of comfort and satisfaction. One excellence of those Gardens will be that those will be pure from annoying noise and tumult etc. No idle talks will be to hear there. Every individual will say “Peace and Happy” to others. Such charming sounds will come to hear from all around that the hearts of the residents of the Gardens will be delighted. Moreover, as soon as the season will change, suitable food, drinks and fruit of all kinds will be available on indicating according to the season. Most important thing will be that “Eat bellyful and forever”, not as in the world that “ate any good thing one day and remained desirous anxiously for next entire week”. And if someone took food more than requirement, he arrived at doctor’s clinic.
