Commentary

It has been commanded in this verse: As long as the boys are wards, they can go round everywhere in the house without asking leave save during the times of privacy, as it has been mentioned earlier. But when they come to puberty, then they come in the category of those men who have already been living at home before them. They should abide by those rules, which have been explained in the previous verses concerning keeping the sight below and coming in the houses and going out. Allaah Almighty has manifested His commandments for you very clearly and because He is well Aware of everything’s and every matter’s reality and philosophy, so He determines such rules for human society, abiding by of which; the mankind can pass a chaste life in the world.

It is obvious that by breaking the rules prescribed by Allaah Almighty and opposing His commandments, all parts of human life will be spoiled, whether those are about domestic circumstances or belong to society, one’s country or national, whether those are concerning employment or meeting with the people and trade, the people will neither find rest and pleasure anywhere and nor any ease in any matter. And if the carelessness from the side of His commandments increased uniformly, then this depravity will also increase continuously.

Found from it; is that only He can make the laws, the principles, the rules and the regulations, Who have more knowledge and experience than all others and Whose wisdom is perfect, so that He may know the philosophy of the commandments. Wisdom and knowledge are required for making the laws. Great assemblies and parliaments etc. are useful till such limit; as far as those may increase sense and science. Result of collecting the ignorant people is nothing but waste of time and useless turbulence.

58b.  Three times of privacy for you. It is no sin for them or for you at other times, when some of you go round attendant upon others (if they come into your presence without leave). Thus Allah maketh clear the Revelations for you. And Allah is Knower, Wise.
58b.  Salaasu  ‘aw-raatil-lakum.  Laysa  ‘alaykum  wa  laa  ‘alayhim  junaahum-  ba’-dahunn.  Tawwaafuuna  ‘alay-kum  ba’-zukum  ‘alaa  ba’-z.  Kazaalika  yubayyi-nUllaahu  la-kumul-  ‘Aayaat.  Wallaahu  ‘Aliimun  Hakiim.

Commentary

‘Aw-raat – (the things which should be kept concealed), this word is plural of ‘awratun. ‘Awratun is the thing, opening of which is basis of shame or mean-mindedness.

It is commanded: These are three such times when you put off your clothes and your body is not dressed as such that you like to come before others. Moreover, you generally have spare time to meet your wives frankly in these durations. Therefore, no person; even if he/she is a youth; should not come into your presence without leave and fearless during these times. However, save these private hours, bond-maid, slave, servant and little children can come and go freely into your presence without leave and permission.

Allaah Almighty causes to understand you clearly His Commandments like this. The principles, which He has determined for your living and meeting with one another mutually, have been established on account of His Knowledge and Wisdom. He knows very well that when what should happen, and which are the expedients in doing works by fixing times?

It is found from this verse that the mankind does not remain at his home in such condition or dress every time, which maybe suitable for meeting with others and outsiders. Therefore, he has power to control the entrance of others into his presence. None should come into his presence without leave during above mentioned three times. Besides this, he can permit or restrict others to come into his presence during other times.

Commentary

Huluma – (understanding, wisdom), here it aims: discernment of desire relating to sex, which appears after puberty).

Marraat – (again and again, repeatedly), this word is plural of marrah, which means “one time”. Here it aims “time and an occasion”. It means “there are three such times in which a man desires privacy”.

A man needs a separate house and abode for living. Generally, along with him, his wife, children, attendants and servants; in which slaves and bond-maids were included during ancient times; live altogether. In these verses, the way of living in a house is being described to its residents that it is difficult for the common people to live every time in a house mutually, but there are three such times during which; privacy is required. And a man does not like coming of any other person near him during those times – (a) before the prayer of dawn, (b) when one lays aside his raiment for the heat of noon, (c) and after the prayer of night. In these times, if bond-women, servants and slaves etc. wish to enter, they should at first take permission of the master of the house. Those children who have grown up but still they have not reached the age of puberty so far, they also are not allowed to come in fearless. If they wish to enter, they should ask leave before coming in the room.

(Continued from the last)

Against fear and confusion, they will be provided satisfied and peaceful life. And these will be the people who will arrange; even for their old enemies too; for passing a comfortable and easy life in the world.

It has been commanded in above mentioned verses: Their conduct will be that they will never prostrate before any other than Allaah Almighty. They will establish worship of only One God. And they will never ascribe as any partner unto Allaah Almighty and in any of His Epithets.

Can anybody ever think that this tremendous prediction is being caused to hear in so much clear words in a very beautiful manner, correctly at that time when the opponents of Islam have surrounded the Muslims from all around and they are sure that now the success is in their hands, One Person; who is without means and nearly with unarmed companions; challenges those enemies who are fully equipped with all kinds of arms and ammunition; causes to hear them and says: You can never harm Us? Allaah Almighty has chosen Us for ruling over the entire world. He has commanded Us that we should not be confused, we shall be heirs of the empire of the world. We should say to the opponents of Islam from His side: My these servants will spread peace and safety in the world. And I shall strengthen the religion Islam well by means of them in the world. They will teach the doctrine of Oneness to the people and consider that I am their One Worshipped. They will not ask any other but Me for their desires. These will be thankful servants of Mine.

The Believers understood the matter at the spot that this all shall happen certainly and Muhammad is a true Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), who has been causing to hear this verse fearlessly to the refractory people in such condition. None can be so much aspiring but a Messenger. Today the history has shown that this verse is a clear proof that Muhammad is a true Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Those all victories, which were acquired with effect from the after worldly life of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) to the times of Uthman (May Allah be pleased with him), were perfection of the prediction of this verse. Islam prospered and the world was filled with justice and equity.

But after that, thankless people of this favor were born, about whom, it has been commanded: These people will be breakers of the Commandments of Allaah Almighty. Muslims are being instructed that they should establish worship, pay the poor-due and obey always the Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). If they will do so then Allaah Almighty will send always His mercy upon them.

It has been described concerning the disbelievers that they cannot take shelter anywhere in the world. Allaah Almighty will blockade and recompense them for the evil they did. After death, their abode will be Fire of the Hell, which is the worst place of dwelling. (God protect us).

Commentary

After bearing oppressions of the Idolaters of Makkah for thirteen years by astonishing silence and steady, the Muslims departed from their native land Makkah to Madinah by the Command of Allaah Almighty, but here too, those infidels did not let them live in peace. Sincere and obedient of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) Muslims who flew along with Him from Makkah and those inhabitants of Madinah who had become their supporters and comrades, they all (May Allaah be pleased with them) suffered from great calamities in the beginning. Besides the foes of Makkah, the Jews of Madinah also got ready to oppose them. In addition to this, another group of Hypocrites was born; who apparently joined the Muslims; but secretly they were companions of the enemies. In such condition, these verses were revealed, in which it was proclaimed fearlessly: O ignorant people! These oppressed Muslims will become owners of the entire world in future. They will be successors of those ancient and great nations which have ruled in the world. And the same religion (Islam), to which you have got ready to finish, but which is most favorite religion of Allaah Almighty, will become very strong and firm. Its enemies will be failures. That will be slain who will rebel. All confusions of the Muslims will go to an end.   (Continued) . . .
