Lesson

Surah ‘TAWBAH  (Repentance) – Chapter – 9) ended on the last dignified verse, and along with it, Second Stage of Holy Qur’aan also ended. Next Surah Yuunus (Jonah) begins with Third Stage (Manzil).  There is a dire need of understanding nowadays and getting through the subjects of Surah Tawbah (Repentance). We should think “What can we learn from it?”

This Chapter describes us such Principles of Islamic Politics, which should be adopted in this worldly life. The Blessed Book i.e. Holy Qur’aan used to cause to know the Principles of welfare and goodness to the humankind for thirteen years in Makkah. If the human beings of that duration would have accepted those Principles, then the Muslims would not have created a separate community, but the entire human beings would be only one nation. They all would have lived altogether with peace and safety in the world. And there would be opportunity of getting comfortable life after death easily for every such person; who had believed in the Hereafter, he would have reaped benefits from the blessings of this world along with others without apprehension.

But sorry to say, it was not so. Therefore, as soon as the Muslims reached Madinah, they were instructed: Organize yourselves separately. And they were also commanded: Blow in return for blow (tit for tat). However, as far as possible, do good with others, do not give up mutual harmony and alliance in any condition.

This method of their internal arrangement has been taught to the Muslims that they should consider the guidance of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) as fastening and binding of their lives. It was good fortune of the human beings that a Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) was sent unto them who was very beneficent, clement, and condoler Person for all. Whatever He says to you, is according to the Spirit of Holy Qur’aan.

There are three kinds of people before you. Treat them in accord with the behavior they deserve:

·       The Infidels These are the people who will fight you openly, and if possible, they will try to ruin you. You should be ready every time to face them. Unless they understand that Islam has come in the world to exist, opposing it will be cause of spreading disturbance and mischief in the world, and they reach the consequence that they should live with it in peace and alliance, whether they accept Islam or otherwise, but it is necessary for peace and safety of the world to compromise with it for dwelling. You should not begin fighting against anyone at first. However, who fights you, is rebellious. So you should fight against him until he becomes ready to make peace with you.

·       The Hypocrites These are hidden enemies and will be known by their signs. You should remain cautious from their side, and fall not into their scheming.

·       The Muslims are your brothers. Treat them with mutual help, kindness and sympathy. These all guidelines exist in this Chapter (Surah). Therefore it should be recited again and again with understanding.
