Rahmaan means Giver of Everything
Surah Ra-‘d (The Thunder) - 13
‘A-‘uu-zu
Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)
When Messenger of Allah Almighty began to
recite verses of Holy Qur’aan before
the people of Makkah, at that time;
there were two groups of the people. One group from them was of such people who
used to call Allah Almighty but they did not believe in Him as required.
Maximum; they had faith that He is a great Ruler, under Whose supervision;
there were many junior rulers for performing normal routine works. They used to
consider that all works of the people are done by means of the junior gods, and
without their support, access unto the Great Ruler is impossible.
Holy Qur’aan
has explained that there is No Ruler (God) save Allah Almighty. All decisions
are in His hand and He gives necessary things to the entire living beings. He
has many names. He is the Omnipotent, the Creator, the Beneficent, the Lord, the
Giver and Bestower.
Because they were linguists, so they would
have understood the meanings of Rahmaan.
That is to say; Giver of everything is only He. This perception about Allah
Almighty was against their accepted perception. They used to say: our
requirements are fulfilled by these junior gods. If we believe that Allah is Rahmaan, then these junior gods will
become entirely useless.
It was the reason that when a treaty among the
Muslims and the Idolaters of Makkah
was going to be written in the Peace Agreement of Hudaybia, Messenger
(grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) caused to write in the
beginning “Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim (In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)”. But the people
of Makkah said: we don’t know about Rahmaan, so you should write only “Bis-Millaah or Bis-Millaahumma”. At that time,
their persistence was fulfilled. However in fact, Holy Qur’aan continued
making clear the matter which It was desirous to explain.
It is commanded: If you believe in Allah Almighty, you should understand
His Attributes and Names also, otherwise believing or disbelieving are equal.
Such perception about Allah Almighty is not proper that “after creating the
world, He has appointed some little rulers for its management and He Himself
has been sitting aside. Now He has no connection with the works of every day”. Know;
if you wish to understand it that the Creator of all things is Allah Almighty
and only He is Who gives all things to His creatures. There is No so much
Powerful but He only.
