Commentary

It is commanded: As there should be no hesitation in eating from the houses of own father, mother and brother at the time of necessity or when the food is produced before you, in the same way, there is no need of elaborations at the houses of your sisters, fathers’ brothers, fathers’ sisters, mothers’ brothers and mothers’ sisters also. Like this, if someone has appointed you in charge of working at his house and handed over to you the keys of provisions, then too; there is no blame upon you in eating according to your requirement at the time of necessity. There is also no restriction on eating frankly at the houses of your sincere friends.

Moreover, you are permitted for cooking the food and eating; that you can arrange to cook and eat collectively and separately. It is also not necessary to eat by sitting together at table-cloth. Every person can eat apart. The favor has been shown in these commandments that there should be no restriction in the society due to useless ceremonies. However, it is incumbent that every individual should bear the will and ease of others in mind. These commandments are not one-sided, but comfort and pleasure of both sides have been regarded. No one should think from it that he has attained the right to tease any other by lingering at other’s house and saying that “I have been permitted to eat from your house, so give me food!” The aim from these commandments is to set the people free from unnecessary elaborations. These commandments are under this essential rule that none should trouble intentionally to any other and become burden upon others.
