a dweller in Midian, reciting unto them Our Revelations, but We kept
sending (Messengers to men).
46. And thou was not
beside the (Mount) Toor when We did call; but (the knowledge of it is)
a Mercy from thy Lord that thou mayst
warn a folk unto whom no Warner came before thee, that haply they may accept
admonition.

Commentary
Saa-wiyan – (dweller, resident), it is the Subject
from the word sawaaa-‘un, which means “to dwell, to reside”.
It has been described in these verses: O Muhammad (grace, glory,
blessings and peace be upon him)! We have been telling you the circumstances of
Moses (peace be upon him). It is clear that you were not present at any of those
places where and when such occurrences appeared. Neither had you been dwelling
among the people of Madyan that you might recite Our Revelations before
them, and nor you were present on any side of the Mount Toor where We
called Moses (peace be upon him) and said: I am the Lord of the Worlds. Is it
not clear proof of this matter that you have been reciting Our Revelations
before these people and describing them true circumstances? Is it not a
conclusive sign of this matter that you are Our Messenger (grace, glory,
blessings and peace be upon him); and as We used to send Prophets (peace be
upon them) among the ancient nations after their going astray, like them We
have appointed you Our Messenger. And as you are an uneducated person but
deliver such correct News; is a strong proof that you are a Messenger of Allaah
Almighty. It was demand of Our Mercy that We have established a lineage of
Prophets (peace be upon them) for the guidance of the mankind with effect from
the beginning. You, O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him),
are the last one of that lineage. You have been sent for the purpose that you
should warn them from the sequel of wrong deeds, among whom no Prophet was sent
since long.
