(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

This Chapter was revealed in Makkah. With
regard to arrangement, it is twelfth Surah of Holy Qur’an and it
contains twelve Sections also, in which, story of Prophet Joseph (peace be upon
him) has been described. Characteristic of this Chapter is that; in it, no
other topic has been discussed save the circumstances and their results in
respect of Joseph (peace be upon him), from which we can take many lessons.
Story of Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) has not
been described at any other place in the entire Holy Qur’an. Except Him,
circumstances of other Prophets (peace be upon them) have been mentioned in
different paragraphs at various places, but it has not been discussed even a
word about Joseph (peace be upon him) at any other place in Holy Qur’an.
In how much different circumstances had He lived in the world, did not come in
front of any other Prophet (peace be upon them). Even those were such
circumstances; by effect of which, actual feelings of a mankind come in motion.
It becomes very difficult for a human being to control himself in the tempests
of the passions. Some times, influence of others’ passion is also very strong
on a person.
Maximum part of the life of Prophet Joseph (peace be
upon him) passed in such storms of the passions. The entire story regarding the
way of confronting such circumstances by Him (peace be upon him) has been put
at one place (in this Surah), so that every individual may know “How to
face such circumstances?”
Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) had twelve sons
from different wives. From them, Joseph and Binyamin were sons of one
mother. He (peace be upon him) used to love Joseph (peace be upon him) most. By
observing inclination of father’s more love toward one son than others, envy
grew in the hearts of other brothers against Joseph (peace be upon him). Personally,
He (peace be upon him) was not guilty in this matter. But He (peace be upon
him) had to suffer the results of their jealously and was sold by His brothers
as a slave. Wife of a great officer bought Him and she was involved in His
(peace be upon him) love. But Joseph (peace be upon him) did not give up God-fearing
and He was put into the prison.
After that, the circumstances turned over, Joseph
(peace be upon him) became Finance Minister of the King of Egypt. He (peace be
upon him) arranged food for the people during the famine, called His parents
and brothers, and colonized them in Egypt . And He
(peace be upon him) forgave the error of His (peace be upon him) brothers.
