Commentary
‘Al-laa-‘ibiina – (the
jesters, buffoons, mockers), this word is plural of laa-‘ibun, which is
the subject from the word la-‘aba. La-‘ib means “jest, joke,
sport, fun”.
Fatara – (He
created), it is a past tense. Fatara means “bringing out a new thing by
rending”. The word fatuur is used for crack, fissure, hole. It aims “to
make without looking any sample”.
After hearing the answer of
idolaters, Messenger Abraham (peace be upon him) said: “It does not prove that
whatsoever you and your forefathers used to do, was correct also. It seems that
your forefathers used to abide by a wrong way. By following them, now you also
have been involved in the same stupidity; in which they were”. When they heard
this; they were astonished with wonder and looked toward Abraham (peace be upon
him). They did never hear so much harsh talk about themselves and their
forefathers. Their hearts were trembled by hearing such unusual words from a young
man. They began to say: Do you think that it is the truth or are you jesting
with us? When they spoke with astonishment after hearing above statement; then Abraham
(peace be upon him) replied: It is not a jest, but it is the Truth that these
images of the stone cannot be your Lord. Your Lord is That; Who is The Lord of
the heavens and the earth, and Who created them in accordance with a beautiful
Established Order; without keeping any sample in view.
