Commentary
Naafilatan – (a grant, assignment), it is a Noun from
the word nafala. Nafala means “to do or give more than
requirement”. Messenger Abraham (peace be upon him) called for a son. His (peace
be upon him) application was fulfilled and one more son to that son was
bestowed, which was a grant from Allaah Almighty and which was given to
Abraham (peace be upon him) without his demand. In Arabic language, the word naafilah
is used for grandson also.
Allaah Almighty made the fire cool and pleasant for Abraham (peace be
upon him) by His endless Power and after rescuing him form this calamity, He conveyed
him to Syria from his native land Iraq, where He had collected arrangements for
welfare and betterment of the people of the world, and they reaped many
apparent and hidden benefits from the useful things. Lot (peace be upon him)
moved too along with Abraham (peace be upon him) from their native land, who
then was sent as a Prophet unto the people of Sodom for their guidance.
A son was given to Abraham (peace be upon him) for whom he
wished and whose name was Isaac (peace be upon him), then a son was given to
Isaac whose name was Jacob, from whom a lineage of Prophets (peace be upon them)
ran. These all people were fortunate of good disposition and good-doers. Then Allaah
Almighty appointed them (peace be upon them) Leaders of the people, so that they
should show them the Right Path by the Command of Allaah Almighty.
