59. They said: Who hath done this to our gods?
Surely it must be some evildoer.
60. They said: We heard
a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham.
61. They said: Then
bring him (hither) before the people’s eyes that they may testify.

Commentary
When the people returned from a fair, they saw that except the
chief idol, other all idols have been broken, and the axe has been kept on the
shoulder of great idol. A commotion was arisen in the entire township that the person,
who did this, was very outrageous. He committed a big transgression that he
broke all images into pieces. Who could be such violent among us?
The people who had heard from Abraham (peace be upon him) that “when
all people will go out from the township for attending a fair, then I shall finish
these idols”. They said: We heard from a youth who was making mention of these
idols. He (peace be upon him) was saying: I shall do them to an end.
Other people began to say after hearing above statement: Where
can he go? Go and arrest him. When he will come before the people then it will
be found out. Having so much courage in our presence is very great violence.
In short, every individual was angry upon Abraham (peace be upon
him) and said what could he say. Some active people ran away in search of Abraham
(peace be upon him) and arrested him.
