Commentary

Mashaariq – (Easts, places whence the sun rises), this word is plural of Mashriq (the East); which is an adverb of place from the word sharqun. Sharqun means “to appear”. The aim from the word mashriq is “the side from which the sun rises”. Places of rising of the sun are different during different seasons. Therefore there are many Easts. In the same sense, the word Mashriq has been used in plural – Mashaariq. Like this, sun setting places also are different which can be understood from above explanation, so those have not been mentioned. Full meanings of it would be that Allaah Almighty is Who determines and establishes different places of sun rising and sun setting according to His Knowledge.

It is commanded: Although every creature has been standing in bowing condition before the Command of Allaah Almighty and can never disobey Him, but it is entirely apparent among the Angels (peace be upon them). They remain aligned standing in the Court of Allaah Almighty step by step, drive away the devils with reproof so that those may not hear secret matters; like this they scold the disciples of the devils and remove them from the nearness of the pious people so that those may not mislead them.

Moreover, they {the Angels (peace be upon them)} recite again and again and remember the Word (Qur’an) of Allaah Almighty after hearing and for describing to one another mutually or to whom He desires to describe. If you meditate in their obedience, you will understand that your Lord and God is only One; Who is the Creator of the heavens, the earth and whatsoever exists between them, Who is the Protector and the Nourisher of all. He is Who has determined by His management the places of sun rising and sun setting. He has taken an oath of the Angels (peace be upon them) because they are considered wise creature who are never careless from Allaah Almighty in any condition, and their state has been giving clear evidence that “Allaah is One”.
