that thou tellest, and lo! We do behold thee weak among us. And were it not
out of regard of your tribe, we would have stoned thee, for thou art not
strong against us.

Commentary
Behold! How Prophet Sh’eyb (peace be up[on
him) has been causing to understand by different ways. Sometimes He (peace be
up[on him) says: Reflection of own greatness is an insanity. Mankind should
live with civility and have faith that any other individual can be better than
me in every matter. Sometimes He causes to draw attention of the people: You have
seen the head of pride ashamed. Before you, many heroes have died, while you
are nothing.
Now let’s hear the answer of His (peace be up[on
him) folk. They say: O Shu’eyb (peace be up[on him)! We do not understand
much of that which you tell us. We know well what you are. You are weaker than
us. The members of your family are our companions. We have been hindered because
of them; otherwise we would have killed you by stoning. We consider that you
are not a respectable person for us.
It
is the vain pride of a human being. When a mankind gets some power, he begins
to talk in such a way: While any individual can make not the slightest noise
before me, then why should I hear those who stand unnecessarily to give advice?
Who are they to teach me? I can ruin them in moments if I wish. However, I just
think that connection with their close relatives will be cut; otherwise they would
have been killed a long time ago.
