Commentary
Makaa-nata – (place), origin of this word
is ka-wa-na. kawana or kawn means “to exist, to have”.
From the same, the word makaan has been derived, which means “place of
existence”. There is a difference between makaan and makaanatah. Makaan
means “place”, whereas makaanatah means “grade and condition”. Here it
aims the same.
When Prophet Shu’eyb (peace be upon him)
observed the behavior of the people that they do not have any regard for Allah
Almighty, He (peace be upon him) understood that their condition cannot be
correct. Therefore, He (peace be upon him) was disappointed from their
guidance, and then He (peace be upon him) said that which exists in this verse.
Summary of it is that “it seems that you will never have trust in my sayings,
so you should go on your working place and do that what you desire. You have
been beset importunately on stubbornness and perverseness, so carry on. I have
been working also what is necessary for me to do according to my condition.
It will be known to you very soon that to whom the
doom surrounds and who is disgraced, Me or you? Whether I am a liar or you? Now
it can be done nothing save it that you should wait for that which will happen
in future. Hither, I also should wait like you instead of doing any other work”.
