Commentary
‘Al-‘amsaalu – (similitudes), this word is
plural of masala. Masala is such known thing which is produced
for knowing about any unknown or incident; and it is said that you should
consider the same unknown or incident as this similitude.
The aim of this verse is that by choosing different
titles for you; level of their sense is found out. And it seems clearly that
they are not able to set up their correct judgment about that whatever they
see. And the person who may not set up correct judgment, certainly he will go
astray. He can never find the Straight Path.
The people of Arab used to say usually during those
days that Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) had fallen
in the influence of any witchcraft of any Witch Doctor. Holy Qur’an has
rejected this thought of theirs at many places. Moreover, it’s not strange that
for removing this opinion, That Incident would have been shown that “Labiid
bin al-A’sam, who was a Jew, practised incantations upon the Messenger of
Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and it began to
affect the Messenger, but Allah Almighty sent down last two Chapters of Holy Qur’an
(Ma-‘uuz-tayn), by reciting of which, the affect of the witchcraft was
removed entirely. From this incident, two matters were required to be shown:
1.
It should be shown that impression of
incantation, if it is, is unreal. The words of Hadith are that “After
reciting last two Chapters of Holy Qur’an (Ma-‘uuz-tayn), the
Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) stood up quickly, as
any person tied by a rope, is opened”. But it did never happen with the
Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) during entire
previous life before that time. And He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be
upon him) used to perform always his every work at its proper time very
actively.
2.
Influence of the incantations is only
on the thoughts.
