81. So We caused the earth to swallow him and
his dwelling-place. Then he had no host to help him against Allah, nor was he
of those who can save themselves.
82a. And morning found those who had coveted his
place but yesterday saying: Ah, well a day! Allah enlargeth the provision for
whom He will of His slaves and straiteneth it (for whom He will).

Commentary
FakhasafNaa – {We caused (the
earth) to swallow}, it is in Past Tense from the word khasaf, which
means “to cause to swallow”.
Fi-‘atin – (host, company),
Wayka-‘anna – (Ah, we understood
now),
Korah could not
understand due to haughtiness of his wealth that he was not the person who would
have power over the universe, but That is Allaah Almighty. There is no
one who may say something before Him without His permission. Qarun was
an unfortunate person. As he used to reproach other common people, he wrangled also
with Moses (peace be upon him).
It is commanded: We caused the earth to swallow him along with
his treasures and his home. Then neither his supporters could save him and nor
he himself could escape. It is true that everything is helpless before Allaah Almighty. When those people who
were desirous of wealth yesterday and saying: Ah, would that we had the like of what has been given to Korah,
they began to say, "Oh! It was the matter that Allaah Almighty extends provision to
whom He wills of His servants and restricts it from whom He wills. Riches are
not the signs of it that the rich people are liked also by Allaah Almighty.
