33. And those who were
despised say unto those who were proud: Nay but (it was your) scheming night
and day, when ye commanded us to disbelieve in Allah and set up rivals unto
Him. And they are filled with remorse when they behold the Doom; and We place
carcans on the necks of those who disbelieved. Are they requited aught save
what they used to do?

Commentary
It is commanded: After hearing the answer of those who were
proud, those who were despised will say: It is right that you did not compel us
by force to believe in a plurality of God and adopt infidelity, but you used
such trick that by observing of which a sensible person may err immediately. You
did not use to say by your tongues, but used to commit such works day and night
that regardless the observer might be gratified. Instead of remembering Allaah
Almighty, you managed in such a way that others also should forget Him, get
ready to disobey His Commandment and begin to consider that other things also were
Powerful as they had to consider Allaah Almighty. You settled that steam
and electricity were helpful for you, and caused to understand that whatever was
done; was done by the power of these things. And you began to celebrate
merriments. How could we escape from going astray in such environments?
Apparently they will describe these things to one another, but every
one of them will repent stealthily and be abashed in their hearts that alas! What
did we do this that Today (the Day of Judgment) we brought perpetual difficulties
on ourselves?
At last it will be commanded: Place heavy shackles on the necks
of these disbelievers and carry them by pulling towards the Hell! As they sowed
during their worldly life, so shall they reap Today. We had described: Tit for
tat.
