17.  Falaa  ta’-lamu  nafsum-maaa  ‘ukhfiya  lahum-min-  qurrati  ‘a’-yun.  Jazaaa-‘am  bimaa  kaanuu  ya’-maluun.

Commentary

Tatajaafaa – they forsake, abandon), origin of this word is jaf-wun. Jafaa-‘un means “to remove, to shrink from”.

Mazaaji-‘i – (beds, places of lying down and sleeping), this word is plural of mazja-‘un, which has come out from zaj-‘un. Zaj-‘un means “to lie down”.

Qurrata  ‘a’-yunin – (comfort of eyes), it aims “pleasure of the heart and comfort for the body’.

Identity of the Believers was described in the previous verse that when Revelations of Allaah Almighty are recited before them, they bow down for prostration immediately and hymn the Praise of their Lord by their tongues. They are never haughty.

Some more signs concerning them have been described in this verse that they arise from their beds and offer prayer, fear from the torment of Allaah Almighty, aspire His Mercy and supplicate, and spend from that which Allaah Almighty has provided them; for His pleasure.

After that, it is commanded: As reward of their good deeds, Allaah Almighty has kept hidden many great blessings for pleasure of their hearts and comfort for their bodies, about which no one knows, that is to say, they will be rich with both kinds of favors – apparent and unapparent. Fear of Allaah Almighty and hope of rewards from Him, is a sign of Belief. One should neither fear any other and nor be covetous of reward from someone else.
