Commentary
YAQNUT – (devoutly obey, is submissive), origin of this word is qanata.
Qanuut means “to humiliate oneself humbly”.
‘Ittaqaytunna – {if you keep your duty to
(fear) Allaah}, this word has been derived from ‘itqaa’, which
means “piety”. Its origin is waqyun, which means “to save”. ‘Ittaqaa’
means “to escape, that is to say, to be abstinent”.
It is being commanded to the wives
(May Allaah be pleased with them) of the Messenger (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him): We will give reward twice to those of
you who will devoutly obey Allaah Almighty and His Messenger and will do
righteousness, and We have prepared for them a noble provision.
After that, it is commanded: You are not like other common
women. Your status is very higher than them. You should adopt such good habits
which should be followed by other women after observing you. Dignity of this
status demands that you should escape from bad habits due to fear of Allaah
Almighty and give up such matters by which there is risk of spreading badness.
One of those affairs is that you should not be soft, at the time of necessity,
in your speech with any third person. You should say with awe and dignity whatever
you wish to say.
