Commentary

Laa tafza-huuni – (affront me not!, do not disgrace me), it is a negative sentence from fa-za-ha. Fazah means “to asperse, to vilify, to disgrace”. Actually this word is “laa tafza-huunii”, the last ‘i’ has been dropped due to stopping, which means “me”.

Laa  tukh-zuuni – (shame me not!) it is also a negative sentence from the word ‘ikh-zaaa-‘un, origin of which is kha-za-ya. Khiz-yun means “disgrace”. This word has passed in Suratul-Baqarah. ‘Ikh-zaaa-‘un is an active verb from the same i.e. “to bring disgrace or to shame upon”. Here too, the last ‘i’ has been dropped due to stopping, which means “me”.

Lam  nanha – (we have not forbidden).

When the people of the city heard that some guests have come unto Lot (peace be upon him) from abroad and they have very beautiful faces, then they came, rejoicing at this news, so that they may trouble them (the guests) by their evil habits. Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) said to them: They are my guests, so affront me not! Fear Allah Almighty and do not disgrace me!

They said: we have forbidden you that you should not interfere in the matters of our relationship with other people. Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) said: If you are desirous to fulfill your wants, you should do it lawfully. Your wives, who are like my daughters, are at your homes for the same purpose. Why do you involve in the act; which is contrary to the Nature?
