Chapter “The Prophets” – (Suratul – ‘Ambiyaaa’ - 21)

 ‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

56b.  and I am of those who testify unto that.

57.  And by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs.

58.  Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it.
56b.  Wa  ‘anaa  ‘alaa  zaalikum-minash-shaahi-diin.

57.  Wa  tAllaahi  la-‘akii-danna  ‘asnaamakum  ba’-da  ‘an-  tuwal-luu  mudbiriin.

58.  Faja-‘alahum  juzaazan  ‘il-laa  kabiiral-lahum  la-‘allahum  ‘ilayhi  yarji-‘uun.

    Commentary

‘Akiidu – (I shall circumvent), origin of this word is kiid, which means “trick”. There is another word “makr” of the same meaning, that is to say, cheating, imposture, fraud, pretence etc.

Juzaazan – (fragments), this word is plural of jaziizun, which has been derived from jazzun, it means “to break into pieces”. Juzaazan means “separate pieces”.

Messenger Abraham (peace be upon him) has been causing to understand his idolater folk among whom his father is also included that “why do you bow before these images and idols made of clay, stone and metal; for worship, which have been fabricated by your own hands? I have not been jesting, but describing the actual condition. It is my belief and I bear witness that these can do nothing”.

After that, when he (peace be upon him) saw that the people do not agree to his saying, then he said: Well, now when you will go out to visit a fair, then I shall beat them black and blue. Perhaps you will understand after it that worship of these helpless images is vain. Every individual should worship Allaah Almighty only, Who is Most Powerful and Omnipotent.

Some people of his folk heard but some did not listen to him (peace be upon him) and slipped away carelessly. But Abraham (peace be upon him) was strong of his inclination. He was desirous to manifest upon them the helplessness of the idols. When they went collectively to attend a fair, then he (peace be upon him) raised the hatchet and broke entire idols into pieces except the one; which was considered by them a leader of all, so that they may be informed verbally also that “Behold helplessness of your chief idol”.
