Commentary

Mahjuura – (separated, forsaken, cut off, rejected), this word is from hajar, which means “to give up”, and hujar means “raving, vain, useless words, abuse and giving bad names”. This word has passed in Suratul-Mu’-minuun, where it means “to say something wrong concerning any other”. Here; both meanings can be, that is to say, forsaken or (Let us flee to Allah) able to be said a collection of useless words.

Mankind is a collection of several powers which appear in every human being with different ratio, that is to say, their quantity and form in every mankind are different (less or more). The thing which gathers them in a mankind is that mankind’s Nafs Naatiqah (The Rational Soul). When a mankind comes in this world, his rational soul comes into being. Then according to his rational soul, his body is made and some powers of the rational soul incline towards its safety, collection of which is called “Nafs Ammaarah (inordinate appetite, ardent desire)”. Other remaining powers are servants of the rational soul. Their collection is called “Nafs Mutma-‘innah (benevolence, desire to do good)”. Pulling and taking away begins between Nafs Ammaarah (ardent desire) and Nafs Mutma-‘innah (desire to do good), and some powers begin to cause to make a truce among the two. Their collection is called “Nafs Lawwaamah (Irascibility), which tries to do work under the supervision of Nafs Ammaarah and Nafs Mutma-‘innah, because betterment of Nafs Naatiqah (the rational soul) is in it only. It is the actual mankind. If Nafs Ammaarah overpowers then it leads the rational soul towards destruction.
